Evelyn Schumacher
Evelyn is a registered dietitian and licensed nutritionist in the states of Florida and Georgia as well as a Certified Diabetes Educator. She received her bachelor's in Nutrition from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville and her master's in Food Science and Human Nutrition from the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Previously with Shands Jacksonville as the outpatient diabetes education program coordinator, she was able to receive recognition for that program and maintain it for 9 years, before she moved into the corporate world of diabetes education. In that role she was able to establish 7 recognized sites in the State of Florida for an outpatient diabetes education program. Evelyn has been a provider of diabetes education programs for Duval, Nassau and Baker County Health Departments, Orange Park Medical Center and BCBSFL. She has been a speaker on the topic of diabetes for various companies including: Eli Lilly, Merck, Amylin Pharmaceuticals, the Florida Academy of Family Physicians, and NE Florida AHEC. She has been published in the NE Florida Medicine Journal, and has been the recipient of several awards including the “Outstanding Community Service in Reaching People”, “Outstanding Volunteer of the Year”, "American Diabetes Commitment Award" and “Diabetes Educator of the Year”. Evelyn has served on the national board of the American Association of Diabetes Educators and is President of Joshua Cares Services, Inc., a Florida charitable 502(c)3 corporation providing temporary assistance to those with diabetes who are uninsured or in between insurances.
